I’m not saying necessarily that I want an automatic first-gen Vibe, although I will admit I liked it waaaay more than I thought I would when I drove it. What I’m saying is that she gets a shiny new toy, and I want one one too!

There was a general budget for her car. There wasn’t one at first but things evolved once the searching began. Anything less than the cap spent on her car would go towards my next vehicle. Well, we hit the cap. There is now no money for Zoidberg’s next car. Which is just fine really, as I have a pickup that still gets the job done, and she is ecstatic to drive a car she really wants. But it’s been a whole YEAR since I bought a car for myself, and I’m starting to get blue balls.

I have a Christmas bonus due this year, and if it’s over a certain amount, I am getting a new damn car. Can I wait two whole months? I don’t really think so... *coughs weakly* Ohhhh... Will I make it to Christmas without another car...

Here’s a manual 4x4 van for your time

My girlfriend drives a second gen AWD Vibe and I was pretty nervous about it when I first met her. She really wanted a Subaru but couldn’t get the financing for some stupid reason so she got a Vibe. I really like it. It drive just as well in the snow as my Impreza and handles rather well to boot. The one gripe I have is the crappy outward visibility because of the high, tapering shoulder line.

It is just a pain to get parts for.

New toys are fun. I’m really happy my wife has her Fit. Not only because it replaced her Cavalier, but also because Now she knows what it’s like to have a car that is her’s. She pick it out, she bought it, she loves it. She couldn’t related to that side of car ownership before because, she was pretty much given the Cavalier whether she liked it or not.

With all that said, I could have bought myself another fun thing with four wheels, or just two, if we hadn’t bought the Fit... so theres that.

Rear visibility is atrocious! Good road feel though.

The Fits are still very expensive used. And Matrixes (Matricies...?) and Vibes in good condition still fetch a lot. But my wife deserved a nice car. She also once owned an ‘87 Cavalier.

We paid 11k for our 2010 Sport with just under 40k on it. Not a great price, but great compared to some of the cars we had looked at like a 8,500 2010 Fiesta with like 80,000 miles on it. The Fiesta was a lot less car, probably more fun to drive tho.

Mechanically or Otherwise? Mechanically, I think you could pick up parts from a Matrix.

How is it a pain to get parts for? My Mom has a second gen Vibe GT, and I quite enjoy it in the bends and on short trips. Long trips are another story.

Feels. I’ve been told I need to wait until after the first of the year for my new purchase as well.

The Mrs. has just been back to work after the kid was born and we went 2 months without her income. Daycare costs $950 a month. So we want to see how our budget shakes out after a few months adjusting to some new expenditures. I’ll get a bonus after the first of the year and we’ll get a nice tax return. I just have to be patient.

As far as the A4 man I hope it holds on for just a little while longer.

I have had to wait three days for studs and lugs, five days on a rear knuckle, three days for a rear toe adjustment bolt, upper control arm bolt, and axle seal. Every time I take something apart I have to wait on parts.

On another note, I really want to get GT wheels for my girlfriend’s AWD.

Don’t. That’s part of why I hate it on long trips. There is almost no tire and it has a jarring effect on ride quality.
